Our health system is working toward opening an urgent care ambulatory clinic at a ski resort nearby. The providers are requesting to have narcotics and some sedation medications such as ketamine and midazolam on site. None of our other ambulatory clinics, including our urgent cares, currently carry or use any controlled medications.
I’m wondering if anxiolytics and analgesics - specifically midazolam, ketamine, and opioids are currently used in your ambulatory setting for fracture and joint reductions. Are APPs using these medications? If so, what protocols, treatment algorithms, and competency education do you follow?
Thanks!
